The Railway

The Railway

A railway was constructed along the edge of the Fowey valley in 1869. This created the Pill – an area of calm sheltered water at Golant accessed at some states of the tide under a bridge. This helped to develop traditional boat building and provide safe moorings for small boats. The Golant Heritage Group collected historical material about the railway for a major project in 2013 including reminiscences of long standing residents who used the train, affectionately known as the Fowey Rattler. This video was part of the project and is available to purchase as a DVD.
